Salient Eye turns any old or spare Android device with a camera into a theft-deterrent system that alerts you immediately to any movement by sending text and email messages. A surprisingly simple setup process allows you to start getting notifications right away. It's a little less feature-rich than other apps like Manything or Presence, but still manages to lock in on simplicity and functionality.

When a burglar tries to break into your house, office or dorm room, the app will instantly send you a text and an email message with potentially incriminating photos. It also has a loud siren that can (hopefully) scare the thief away, which you can turn off by entering a four-digit disarm code from within the app.

Unlike other apps that require you to give them access to your device's camera, Salient Eye only uses the photo gallery. The camera's image quality and resolution aren't affected by this process. Salient Eye has a simple installation process, just tap on the Install button located below the app's Google Play listing. Once you do this, a pop-up window with the app's permissions will appear.
